About the Event Organisers
and Sponsor
The poetry evening with
Carol Ann Duffy and Gillian Clarke is organised by the Dept. of
Cultural Studies at the University of Central Lancashire in conjunction
with the University's Arts Promotion Board. It is the flagship event
for a programme of live literary events planned for the academic
year 2001-2002.

The
University's Arts policy "aims to be a focus for cultural
and intellectual activities in the Region by being an effective
provider of specialist arts facilities, arts events and education."
The
Department of Cultural Studies offers courses in English
Literature, American Studies, Drama, English Language and
Linguistics at BA, MA and PHd level.

A grant of £420
from the North
West Arts Board makes the event possible. The board's key
aims are to "support and develop the arts in the north-west,
to help make them central to people's lives and a vital element
of the region's culture." The board itself is funded by
central governement - via the Arts Council - and by local authorities. |
