Carol Ann Duffy
and Gillian Clarke are two of the best known living poets
writing in Britain today.
Students of A Level
and GCSE English will be particularly familiar with their
work, which regularly appears on the syllabus.
|
Both are known
for their work in education, tutoring postgraduate writing
courses and appearing in schools.
It would be fair
to suggest that they are representative of the diversity of
female voices in British poetry.
For many years
Gillian Clarke has been known as a writer who puts a highly
personal domestic voice
|
 |
into the context of world
issues. Carol Ann Duffy has achieved prominence in the last decade,
first as an angry voice in the Thatcher era and lately as a ventriloquist
of women's voices from history.
