New Programme of live
literary events for St. Peters
Following the success
of the poetry reading by Carol Ann Duffy and Gillian Clarke on the
8th March, a regular programme of events is planned to begin in
Autumn 2001.
The University of Central
Lancashire's Dept. of Cultural Studies has attracted a proposed
£4k of funding from North West Arts to bring writers of national
reputation to the town.
Amongst the writers the
organisers would like to see speaking to Preston audiences at St.Peters
arts centre are the Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, novelists Irivine
Welsh and Doris Lessing and the poet Benjamin Zephaniah.
The plan is intended
to benefit the whole of the Preston community, supported by the
borough and county councils, Lancaster Lit Fest and local agencies.
